Caitlyn Jenner, Laverne Cox speak transgender equality in The Trans Record preview

Caitlyn Jenner and Laverne Cox are just two of the many famous faces lending their standpoint on daily life as transgender people to HBO’s approaching documentary The Trans List.

the 1st trailer for which was launched Tuesday afternoon. “What is this thing, ‘female?’” Jenner asks in the clip, questioning societally-coded tips with regards to gender. “It’s more than just hair and makeup.” Cox adds: “We dwell in a planet that tells so quite a few persons that they are not enough. I’m here to tell you that you are.”

the documentary is a “riveting group portrait” of transgender faces during the LGBT local community. It highlights prominent trans voices including Jenner, Cox, Janet Mock (who also made the movie and performed the interviews contained within), Kylar Broadus, Caroline Cossey, Buck Angel, Nicole Maines, Amos Mac, Bamby Salcedo, Shane Ortega, Alok Vaid-Menon, and Miss Main Griffin-Gracy. “Their stories extend beyond surface explanations of identity to deeper realities of politics and pleasure, telling captivating tales of enjoy, want, family, prejudice, and rebellion,” the synopsis reads. “From Cossey’s tricky days as an outed ‘James Bond Girl’ to Griffin-Gracy’s striking recollections of the Stonewall Riots.” The Trans Checklist marks the continuation of director Timothy Greenfield-Sanders’ Record series, debuting soon after his 2008 film The Black Record. which featured 22 influential African-American cultural leaders, like Al Sharpton, Toni Morrison, and Colin Powell, and 2013’s The Out Listing.

which profiled LGBT local community leaders like Ellen DeGeneres, Dustin Lance Black, Neil Patrick Harris, Suze Orman, and Wanda Sykes.

The Trans Listing airs Monday, Dec. 5 on HBO.
